What is Annapurna’s Bounty? Annapurna, the Indian Goddess of Nourishment, presides over this rich harvest of stories, which contain a generous dollop of magic realism. Here, food manifests as ploy, bargain, symbolic communication, a bone of contention, a lesson, as it weaves through the lives of kings and commoners, witches and goddesses, gurus and bandits, refugees and travellers.
Pluralistic, multi-dimensional, foodie fiction — a banquet for the mind and the body.
Each story is followed by a vegetarian recipe offered up by a character. Just like the tales, the recipes come from the four corners of India: well-known dishes like dal and irresistible mango lassi, novelties like Avial and Bengali Khichari, and an interesting take on the beloved samosa.
Canned, fusion music from Karsh Kale, Trilok Gurtu, Sheila Chandra, etc. Come dressed in an east-west style, if you like. I plan to! Let’s eat, drink, celebrate, & get very literary.
A tip on parking: You can only park on the North side of Ontario here.
